The land that is now Palmer Park, near Woodard Avenue, in Detroit, Michigan was originally owned by Senator Thomas Witherall Palmer. On that land in 1885, away from the hot city and near Lake Francis, the senator built his wife a rustic residence for summer entertaining, naming it the "Font Hill Log House".  It was designed by the architects Mason and Rice who blended country and contemporary by retaining the logs exterior bark and modern conveniences on the inside. The city of Detroit eventually received the 140 acre site as a gift from Senator Palmer, with the condition that its virgin forest be preserved. Over many decades, the log cabin fell into disrepair and it was closed to the public in 1979. Concerned citizens formed the People of Palmer Park in an effort to restore and reopen this historic building to the public. This is a German porcelain, souvenir, leaf shaped dish, white china with gilt wash decoration and a color transfer image of the historic house in Detroit Michigan's Palmer Park. The unusual relief design includes a clock, a key, and foliage; it is a remarkably well preserved survivor of the pre- WWI 1900s era, or earlier.
Marked underneath: "MADE IN GERMANY."
Measures 1 1/4 inches high x 4 1/2 inches long x 3 7/8 inches wide. Note very very short and shallow chip on edge of one leaf serration, as pictured.
